Characteristics:
Grapes are hand harvested from 19-year-old vines on the centre slope of the Tierberg mountains in Durbanville. Vivid colours of ruby plum and purple hues. Layered aromas of black cherry, plum, tobacco and cloves. The palate is rich and smooth. Aged for 18 months on a selection of new, second and third fill French oak.

About the winery:
Established in 1702 as a farm providing fresh produce to the East Indian ships on their way to the spice islands. It is located in Durbanville Wine Valley region, with vineyards on the south facing slopes of Kanonkop to the north facing Tygerberg Hills. Deep soils with good water retention allow dryland farming. Cooling sea breezes, night-time mists and close proximity to the ocean are all beneficial factors when it comes to the quality of the grapes.
