Characteristics:
Pear wine distilled to eau de vie, using the only Armagnac potstill found in the Southern Hemisphere. Matured further for 4 years on old French 225 liter oak chardonnay barrels. Beautiful amber gold, subtle note of pear, almond and apricot pip nutiness with spice-tinged dried pear fruit character. Same gentle spiced on the rich spirited palate, initial flare of warming cinnamon subsides to reveal vanilla, pear and crushed autumn leaves. Beautiful integration of wood makes the mouthful so harmonious.

About the distillery:
The distillery is located at L'Ormarins, which dates back to 1694 when Huguenot Jean Roi planted 4000 vines beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. Current owner is international businessman and wine connoisseur Anthonij Rupert. The flagship portfolio carries his own name.

Located in Franschhoek, the L'Ormarins estate stands for an excellent range of bubbles made according to the Méthode Cape Classique, the South African version of the méthode traditionelle as it is so cultivated in Champagne. The history of L'Ormarins dates back to 1694, when Huguenot Jean Roi planted 4,000 vines at the foot of the Great Drakenstein Mountains.
