About the winery
In 1707 Meldt van der Spuy boarded the V.O.C. ship ‘De Schellenberg’ and ended up as a vryburger (a free citizen of the Cape) on 9 April 1715. He acquired one of only four liquor licenses at that time and started to export some of the finest Cape wines to the rest of the world. Meldt’s descendant, Sybrand van der Spuy, owns the prestigious Cape Point Vineyards today and is the founder of the Cape Town Wine Co. The grapes are selected from the unique Cape Town appellation, the proximity to both Atlantic and Indian Oceans provide the cool growing conditions which create expressive wines.
